Yes back in the year 1956 If I remember it right, my family got their own spanking new home phone in our favorite color, black! [they were all black at the time] As we were so used to not having one when we did get one it was Wow! My sisters were working at Woolworth’s so they put their share of money together in to order one.

We had it placed in the kitchen and started calling a few family and friends at the time, it was a exciting to use it just an amazing thing to have, we had only gotten our first TV not long before this if I remember it right and that’s a story in it’s self! With twelve kids in the house it wasn’t an easy thing to save up for a phone and to maintain it, and if someone was working they all helped out the best they could because family helps family, in those days and large family’s were common back then we had a family with fourteen kids in the building.

If you ever watched the TV program ” The Honeymooners” Where Alice had a phone installed and called told her neighbor Trixi to let her know, it was like that we called a few people and friends, it was all new to us and exciting!

So this is just one of those exciting events that happened to me and my family back in the early days of the 1950’s. One that I recall as one of my favorite memories of being a kid at the time.
