Cruising The Avenue!

Back in the mid- 1960’s, I remember my friends and I would go drive up and down the avenue cruising in my 1951 Chevy on those warm summer nights. carefree just out on the town. We would ride all the way up and back down again at least four or five times!

Sometimes we would pass a few girls as they were doing the same thing, and there were a few times we ran into a few guys we knew also riding up and down. I know it sounds funny now but it was that way for teenagers in those days. After a couple of hours of riding the avenue, we would stop off at the White Castle for burgers, fries, and a soda or a great tasting Milk shake!

And I remember the waitress would come out on skates and place your order on a tray and hang it on the window of the driver’s side. And it’s still there today, but renovated. There was nothing like the burgers and if I remember only ten cents at the time. Yes they were carefree days back in the mid-1960’s, and at times we would head over the Dairy Queen for a cone, or banana spit. Yea great memories were made back then!
