Non-Stop Summer day ’58

This story starts out on a hot summer day in 1958 it began as a simple day with a few kids coming out early to hang out and meet up to come up with whatever they could to make use of a hot day!

As the day went on into the afternoon hours it seemed that all the kids in the neigborhood came out of nowhere to do the same and it seemed to last forever! I remember my sister Ruth there, my cousin Helen, maryjane, who lived in my building, my friend buddy was there and a few other kids. There were girls playing skip rope, boys fixing their bikes, and at timess it seemed like a non-stop routine of riding bikes up and down our street, it was a very wide and then some rode their scooters up and down we made our own with roller skakes and a milk crate.

And if one kid didn’t have a set of skates we would always share ours, one for you one for me and we would go skating down the steet with one skate on! it was so much fun and somehow the heat didn’t seem so bad after all!

We would do that untill dinner time then go back out till it began get dark and then we had to stay outside in front our of our homes, till we were called in by our parents, in the summer months we were allowded to stay out untill 9:00pm as long as we were out in front of the house,

That’s a great memory, Bob. I like the pictures too! The kids back then sounded nice. Kids in my day were like “If you don’t have skates or a bike, you’re staying behind, loser!” That’s why I love the old days– people (even kids!) had class! 🙂
