Peppermint Hot Chocolate

a great Hot Chocolate good for comfort on a chilly winter’s night!

Makes 2 mugs! I can almost taste it now!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract (a little goes a long way)
  • Optional: 1 crushed candy cane for stirring or topping
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk and cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it’s steaming.
  2. In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Whisk the mixture into the warm milk until smooth.
  4. Add the chocolate chips and keep stirring until melted and silky.
  5. Remove from heat and add the peppermint extract.
    (Seriously — measure it. Too much turns it into toothpaste territory.)
  6. Pour into mugs.
  7. Sprinkle crushed candy cane on top or drop in a whole one as a festive stir stick.
