This is a memory of my being careless, and how that cost me my first guitar back in the summer days of 1964.
At the time we became the band it was just me and my friend, we didn’t have a drummer at the time, so we would go down the basement of the house he lived in, and would practice these a few hours almost every day. So one day after practice when we finished, we went up stairs to his home and his father said, “where is your guitar? to my friend and he says down in the basement, his father says go down and bring it up now! So he did but I left my guitar there thinking it’ll be safe.
So the next day I went to my friends home and we went down to practice again, but I couldn’t find my guitar!! Then we realized that it was stolen! My fault and a lesson learned for sure! It cost only $35.00 so it wasn’t a big loss but my friends guitar cost like like $500.00 at the time! and no doubt that would have been taken for sure! A Gibson double cut-away cherry red beauty!!
We thought we knew who it was but couldn’t prove it although we made a report to the police, but I knew it was no chance of finding it, after a while I brought another used guitar, and that’s the one I held onto and made sure not to leave it anywhere again. like I said it was a lesson learned!
