In the year 1964 we got a gig at a backyard party in Raway N.J. It was the first time we traveled to play, as we always played gigs in the area we lived in at the time. So we practiced a number of songs that we knew and some were instrumentals, we didn’t know many songs at the time and instrumentals were in style at the time, Like “Sleep Walk” “Pipeline” “Walk Don’t Run” We also played, “Johnny Be Good” Beatle songs we only knew a couple at the time, plus “Twist and Shout” “Mr.Postman” and “The House of the Rising Sun” and a few other songs.

If I remember we were paid $5.00 each for playing, I remember we were picked up by the father to play at his daughter’s graduation celebration party, because none of the band had a car at the time. I did get one later in the year that my brother had given me.

So we set up and there was a spotlight in the yard, and a small bunch of kids came and we played about two hours or so, it was fun and we got our $5.00 each! When I look back on those days, I think wow we really had a great time doing what we loved to do!

And we went on to do these kinds of events for a few years then we began to slow down and broke up later on, but in a good way it was fun while it lasted. And my friend and I always got together over the years just to kick it around for a few hours.

I wrote a few years ago about being in the band this memory just popped into my head and I wanted to share it with you.
