Over the years I talked about the fun and things we did back in the 1950’s like playing a game of baseball, or stick ball, two hand touch football, flying our kites, blasting off water rockets, and of course playing king of the hill on the snow mounds the city would dump there and always seemed to last all winter!

St. Michael’s Church was dedicated in 1875, and was sold in 1984, the Church itself now belongs to the Korean Presbyterian Church. it was damaged in the fires of 1934 and 1994. Back in the 1950’s it was very active and people went there over the years, but people moved on and they had to rent it part of the Church to a Korean community after they had to sell it. I remember on Sundays it was always packed with cars so the kids couldn’t play stick ball or basketball, or baseball!

Over the years they rebuilt the play area and removed the parking area, and the field where we always played and made it into a place where the kids of both high schools in the city merged to use the field to hold practice for sports, and more.

Back in the 1950’s and earlier years it was surrounded by picket fence, that went around it and the grounds took up ten city blocks all around! and held a cemetery also that was fenced off, It still has a number of fencing surrounding a portion of the grounds. Many Memories were made there including my sister’s wedding in 1957!
