My Chevy Impala!

Back in the mid 1970’s I brought a used 1966 Chevy Impala that I spotted in a driveway as I was driving along with my brother-in-law one day, so we parked and asked the owner the price for the car was and was told it was $80.00 and had over 100,000 miles on it! it had a dull finish from being weather worn, and had a cracked wind shield, plus it was on the collar stick shift 3 speed! I never drove one and all my other cars were always standard shift.

So I decided to buy the car as is and the next day I picked up the title for the car, and had it registered. And over the next few days, we went to the junkyard and brought a windshield and installed it that very day, So I began to take the car out on the road to head home, I didn’t know how to use the clutch and gear in the car! But the only way to get it done was to do it! So I head out and my brother-in-law is following right behind me and every time I stop for the light, I can’t seem to get it going right it stalls and here I am, bucking like a cowboy at a rodeo!

So I finely made it home and was so relieved just to park it! I remember thinking, I’m gonna get this right the first thing in the morning, so I went out early the next day and sure enough the car was bucking at all the stop lights, with the other drivers blowing their horns at me to hurry! I guess I would have done the same. But I kept on trying for like two hours and other cars were yelling at me! I did manage to do it right with the clutch petal and over the next few days it was like what was I worried about?

I used the car for a number of years traveling back and forth to my job and it was forty miles there and back sometimes six days a week and other places at home, and it always started up in the coldest winter’s day! I did trade it in years later for a different car, but I have to say, other than my 1951 and 1952 Chevy’s, it was the one of the best!
