In the 1950’s I remember watching The Flash Gordon program, It was one of the first science-fiction shows on early TV. It was based on King Features of the comic strip of the same name by, Alex Raymond. The black and white TV series was produced by West German, French, and American, Co-Production by Intercontinental Television Films and Telediffusion. I remember going to the movies where it was shown on a Saturday matinee in the wonderful 50’s! A great time for kids to view two movies with cartoons for $0.50 cents!
As agents of the Galactic Bureau of Investigation, the team travels the galaxy in their starship, the sky, Flash played by, “Dale Arden” and “DR. Zarkov” a fictional character travel in space battling cosmic villains under the order of Commander Paul Richards. The series proved popular with American audiences and critical response, though sparse, was positive. Flash Gordon has garnered little modern critical attention. What little remains generally dismisses the series.
