Thinking back I recall how going to Sears and Roebuck was a big event back in the 1950’s! You could spend a big portion of the day there. It had three floors of all kinds of products from, electronics, home Decor, furniture, and much more read on!
And the escalators were nice and as you got down to the next floor, there was a hot dog stand right as you got off! They also had a jewelry department, a large clothing department, and downstairs a nice well stocked shoe department. The store was about twelve blocks away, an easy walk at the time.
And when it was Christmas season, my Mother and Aunt and cousins who lived in the building next to us would walk up to Sears, and see Santa, and get a gift! It was so well decorated and a sight to see! And they also had the Auto department where you could bring your car for repairs, and buy new tries and they replaced them for you! You could get a tune up and more, A lot of people went there with their autos parts and service.
And it’s where I bought my first console radio in 1968 and it was built in a rich walnut color, and was my first time buying it on credit! I had that a number of years till I sold it to my cousin in the 1970’s. My albums and 45 records sounded so great!! Yea thanks for the memories of Sears and Roebuck!
