Back in the 1950s and early 1960s, there was a park in our city, it was known as “pigeon park” it took up the whole block that people would walk in and around and it was fenced off, it also had a civil war cannon on the other side of the park and war monuments, from WW1 and WW2 it’s been upgraded since but still nice.
So in those early days, every summer in august, the city had a small instrumental band who would set up in the area of top circle, where they hung strings of light bulbs around the top on poles, and they supplied folding chairs, for people to sit and enjoy the music, my mother would always go there when the band was there.
Now the music wasn’t rock n roll, it was more in line with my parents kind of music mostly from the 1940s, and there was some great music from that time peiod, big band music was the style back in the 1940s.

So us kids went up and listened to the music awhile, then we would go down and walk inside the park just to hang out as the music started about 8 in the evening, and we enjoyed the fact that we could stay out longer, other then hanging out longer in front of our house in the summer months.
